- There’s never been a better time to get your 4K on at an affordable price. The LG 27BK67U-B monitor is a 27″ display with an IPS panel with a resolution of 3840×2160. Its color gamut should cover 99% of the sRGB space, and the contrast ratio is 1000:1. There’s FreeSync support on hand, as well. The included stand not only has height adjustment, but can also swivel and pivot. The input port selection includes a handy USB-C connector. As for the price tag, it reads just $299.99 at Newegg.
- And now we move to the mobile aisle. There’s two laptops today, and we’ll start with the gaming model. The Asus TUF FX705DT-DR7N8 is a little pudgy with its 17.3″ display, but it’s got the goods inside. The machine’s powered by a four-core, eight-thread AMD Ryzen 7 3750H processor sitting next to 8 GB of RAM. There’s a lot of room for games in the 512 GB NVMe SSD, and a Nvidia GTX 1650 graphics card with 4 GB of VRAM handles pixel-pushing duties. The port selection includes a handy USB-C connector, and the asking price is just $849.99 at Best Buy.
- For something quite a ways more upmarket, there’s the Dell XPS 13 9380 laptop. Inside its well-milled chassis live an Intel Core i7-8565U processor, 16 GB of RAM, and a 512 GB NVMe drive. The star of the show, however, is the dashing 4K wide-gamut touch display. The machine is thin, light, and its price tag reads $1,597.99 at Rakuten.

That’s pretty cool. I’ll have to see how they compare to the even-cheaper Intel 660p, but hey, more options is always nice.
Corsair MP510 SSDs got a big price cut on newegg after their MP600 on PCIe4 was announced

they got great general performance numbers, but their write latency is among the fastest. as good as 970 pro or optane 900p.
and power consumption is among the lowest, so it’s great for laptops.

That may be so, but now it is getting extremely inexpensive to build pretty competent PCs for general use… that and I have some left over mining GPUs that need a new home. $65 for a CPU, $75 mobo, $35-40 NVMe drive, some $75 memory, plus an old case/PSU lying around plus my over supply of GPUs. All my extended family members may be getting upgrades.
If I didn’t have all the GPUs left over the 2200G is a great option, I already have built an ITX one for a HTPC, when it 1st came out.
To me that price reflects its capabilities. Ryzen 3 1200 (3.1 / 3.4 GHz) is not as fast as the 2200G nor does it have the onboard graphics.
I was slumming around on Walmart and saw a 4-core Ryzen 1200 for $64.99, didn’t realize how much 1st Gen Ryzen has come down… with Ryzen 3000 around the corner it’s no surprise though. Hard to believe you can now buy a 16-core 1950x for $499 today when Intel was charging $999 for a 10-core 20 thread 7900X just 2 years ago. Competition is great. 😀

I heard memory prices aren’t supposed to bottom out until around Fall of this year. That memory is cheap, but I still like the CL 16 across the board or lower; CL 14 preferably. We’ll see what Ryzen 3000 likes the best next month. I’ll sit on my 4x16GB 3000Mhz @ CL14-14-14-14 running my Ryzen 1700 for awhile longer I think.
Ryzen 3 is going to utilize higher memory speeds. A fast, low latency 3600/3733 set is going to be the best value for that CPU line. 3000 is slow news unless you have older Zen CPUs or have Intel.
Intel also is purportedly cutting desktop CPU prices by 15%. Rip
